Birch Home Learning
We have been doing some fantastic activities at home!

Birch Spring timetable (subject to change)

Spring Term has arrived and Birch have been busy learning how to write explain how things work. Within this, we have been improving our writing by including prepositional phrases, fronted adverbials and extending ideas using conjunctions. We are just finishing off explaining how a steam-powered rhino works!

After exploring a range of shapes and lines Birch have had great fun getting their teeth around technical words like ‘perpendicular’ (and finding out Mr Scott cannot spell 'parallel' to save his life!). We are now moving into multiplying two and three digit numbers, using informal and formal methods. All the children have enjoying making the calculation with resources, drawing and solving the problems in their learning.

Autumn Term 2020

Birch Class have been very busy this Autumn term. We have been learning to develop our authorial writing by adding prepositional phrases and a range of figurative devices to our sentences. In addition to this we have begun proofreading and editing our writing- something many have found an enjoyable challenge.

Our learning in Maths has ranged from developing our understanding of place value to learning a number of mental calculation methods including equal sum and equal difference. we have also enjoyed getting our teeth into multiplying and dividing by 10,100 and 1000 and lots more besides!

We were lucky enough to be able to take a trip to kick start our Historical journey through the Roman Empire by visiting the local Baths! Who knew the Romans we such innovators as well and fearsome conqueror! We have enjoyed looking at much of our modern society has been influenced by the Romans.

We have just finished rehearsing for our year group production of the Grinch! Stay tuned for more!
