Geography

Lesson 6- Protecting the Rainforest

The learning outcome for geography this week, is to be able to explain the effects humans are having on the rainforests. In order to meet this, your child should be able to tell you what deforestation means and why it is happening. Children should be able to identify positive and negative effects of deforestation and tell you some of the things that they can do to help limit the impact of deforestation. This week’s learning involves two tasks, as always, follow the PowerPoint for information on this week’s learning and detailed explanations of the activities. The first, sort out the effects of deforestation into those with positive impacts and those with negative impacts. Then, look at each set. Sort out the ones that are thought to be most important. Which ones are least important? The second task is about what we can do. Ask your child to think about the ideas discussed about what we can do. Which one would they like to adopt as their promise to protect the rainforests? Children use the Rainforest Promise Activity Sheet to record their idea.
