Lesson 5- Making Shadows

This week in science, learning is focusing on making shadows. The attached PowerPoint explains the differences between opaque, translucent and transparent materials before explaining what a shadow is. The PowerPoint then introduces the children to Isaac. Isaac has a baby sister. She is a very good baby, but she keeps crying early in the morning because too much light is getting into her bedroom and waking her up.Isaac wants to choose the best material to make some new curtains for her bedroom. This week’s task is to help Isaac decide which material is best for curtains. The children should then draw curtains onto the window on the provided worksheet. There should be a label explaining which material the curtains are made of. Your child should then write a message to Isaac to explain to him why they chose this material. Children should think about how they could tell it blocked light and why this would be useful.
